Introducing…

Digital Scrapbooking 101

A get-started guide to documenting your favorite photos
and memories using Adobe Photoshop

In this course, we will walk through Adobe Photoshop side-by-side, so you can learn to use the software’s most important tools to produce scrapbook layouts you can print, hold in your hand, tuck into albums and share with your family and friends for years — generations, even — to come!

With this course, you’ll go from frustrated family-photo fanatic to memory-masterpiece maker in 30 days or less — even if you’re crazy-busy, have tens of thousands of photos trapped on your phone and are intimidated by Photoshop!

Is this course for you?

It is if…

You are in awe of how quickly time flies, and it makes you a little sappy or sad sometimes.

You have thousands of photos on your devices, and you never go back to enjoy them. It’s just too overwhelming to think about it!

Your photos and memories are among your most treasured possessions. They have the power to bring a smile to your face or a story to your mind.

Whether you’re:

  • Crazy-busy with a mile-long to-do list already, someone who fears you might not be able to add another project to the mix, especially one as overwhelming as “doing something” with your photos…
  • Frustrated with the unorganized state of your photos today (they’re in your cell phone’s camera roll, buried on your partner’s cell phone, in multiple locations on your laptop, scattered through your email messages, tagged to you within your social media accounts, buried in text messages, and who-knows-where-else)…
  • Frustrated by not being able to easily enjoy the photos you took years or even months ago…
  • Worried that you might not have any significant stash of printed photos to leave behind as a legacy for your children, friends or future generations…
  • Worried that you might lose your treasured photos to a technology failure, spilling coffee on your laptop or losing your phone…
  • Convinced you don’t have a creative bone in your body and could never do something like creating scrapbook pages…
  • Not tech-savvy and intimidated by the power of Photoshop
  • Wishing someone else would design your albums of photos and memories, so you can spend as little time as possible creating them and as much time as possible enjoying them…
  • A more traditional, paper scrapbooker who dreams of making the leap to digital scrapbooking, but don’t know where to start…

…you’re in the right place!

Digital Scrapbooking 101 will prove to you that you can create digital scrapbook pages and albums that are gorgeous and meaningful — without a huge time commitment or learning curve.

By the end of this course, you will…

  • feel confident in your ability to save your treasured photos and memories by creating beautiful scrapbook pages in Adobe Photoshop

  • have been introduced to Photoshop, set up your Photoshop workspace to work quickly and efficiently every time you sit down, and learned how to use Photoshop’s most important tools

  • know the keys steps in the Scrap-Fast (Just the Faves!) Strategy — learning how to use Photoshop — and how to simplify the process so you can produce tons of layouts you love!

  • know several reasons why scrapbooking in Photoshop is a better way to collect your photos and memories than creating photo books

  • know how to tell if your photos are high-resolution and will print clearly — or are low-resolution and will be blurry or bitty in your printed layout (and how to avoid the latter!)

  • have created your first digital scrapbook page — one that could easily become the first of an entire album dedicated to your (or your child’s, or another student’s) school portraits

  • learn how you can use templates to make the work of creating pages fast and easy (i.e., let a professional designer design your pages for you!)

  • have discovered a way to quickly build a library of reusable templates that will grow with you over time, making scrapbooking an enjoyable — and speedy — process for years to come

  • feel empowered to use Photoshop digital scrapbooking templates as-is or make the pages your own (because you’ll now know how to use Photoshop’s tools, you can do anything!)

  • feel the satisfaction of having created something amazing with your photos and memories

  • be excited to share your layouts with your friends and family — on social media, yes, but also in person

  • have the power to create a shelf full of pages and albums that will outlive you and will bring smiles to the faces of those you love, today and tomorrow

  • be reminded of the amazing life you have, even when it’s sometimes hard to remember
"I have been watching Corie scrapbook digitally for years. When she decided to start teaching what she knows, I was the first to jump at the chance to learn from her! Before taking the course, I knew nothing about Photoshop. I had never touched the software. Now, I am confidently creating my own pages and absolutely LOVING it! I highly recommend this course! It's changed the way I scrapbook — forever!"

What’s inside the course?

Module 1: Getting Ready

5 lessons • 1 hour, 8 minutes

We’re going to start off by teaching you the four-pillar strategy I use to create timeless scrapbook pages I love without guilt or stress.

We’ll talk about why using Adobe Photoshop is the best way to create scrapbook pages if you want to scrapbook without limitations, like scrapping in chronological order or using only pre-selected design elements, as you would if you’re making photo books.

We’ll collect the photos, fonts and digital design elements you’ll need in order to create the layout for the course. This includes a full kit for you to download! We’ll then talk about the various versions of Photoshop on the market, and which one you’ll need to create digital scrapbook pages.

Then I’ll introduce you to the Photoshop workspace, and I’ll teach you how to simplify what you see by removing unnecessary panels that can be distracting.

Finally, we’ll check your photos for quality and resolution, and I’ll tell you what to do if your photos are too small to print clearly on your layout.

By the end of this module, you will know why we are approaching this task with Photoshop. You will know what makes a good layout and what makes layouts fail (i.e., poor photo quality). And most important, you’ll be ready to start building your layout!

Module 2: Designing the Layout from Scratch

8 lessons • 2 hours, 13 minutes

In this module, we will start designing your layout!

You’ll learn:

  • how to understand layers and the layers palette/panel
  • how to bring your photos and kit papers into your layout
  • how to create and use masks, mattes and strokes
  • how to design a custom title
  • how to add realism to a layout by tilting elements, adding drop shadows and more
  • how to save, share and print your layout

By the end of this module, you will have learned the ins and outs of Photoshop‘s most useful tools. You will have created your first digital scrapbook layout! And you will have a template of that first layout that will allow you to create a dozen of the same layouts to craft an entire school portraits album!

Module 3: Designing the Layout with a Template

3 lessons • 32 minutes

In this module, you’ll be blown away by how we can significantly speed up the process of digital scrapbooking by using templates (sketches with superpowers). We will build the same layout we built in Module 2 of this course — but in a matter of just a few minutes.

You’ll learn:

  • what a template is
  • what a template does and does not include
  • several reasons why you should use templates
  • where to find templates
  • how the Story Squad membership can save you gobs of time — and money — while helping you quickly build pages and albums of your favorite photos and memories
  • how to join the Story Squad membership
  • what else, in addition to templates, is included in Story Squad membership

By the end of this module, you will have seen how easy it is to scrapbook when using a template. You will know what a template is and you will be able to understand how using them will help you save hours upon hours of creation time so you can be super-productive without much time invested.

You also will have learned how you can subscribe to a membership program that will deliver templates to your email inbox each week, further simplifying this scrapbooking hobby so you can create more pages and albums — ultimately enjoying your photos more than you ever have before!

When you enroll in Digital Scrapbooking 101, you will:

  • Receive three training modules showing you exactly what you need to know in order to use Photoshop to create stunning digital scrapbook pages and albums. (Hint: Photoshop is a program you can learn! And it’s not as hard as you might expect! Photoshop’s Photography Play also just $9.99/month!)

  • Receive a digital workbook full of tips, shortcuts and checklists that will help you remember everything you’ve learned in the course.

  • Receive a digital kit of papers and elements you can use to create your first digital scrapbooking layout! The kit is yours to keep and reuse as often as you’d like to, for years to come.

  • Learn my four-step, Scrap-Fast Strategy for making digital scrapbooking a doable, sustainable and enjoyable hobby for years to come. You will learn how to quickly and easily create beautiful layouts — no day-long scrapbooking sessions required!

  • Create a finished digital scrapbook page from scratch! You will then learn to convert that page into a template you can use over and over again to create an entire album of pages documenting your, your child’s or another loved one’s school portraits. Better yet, use it to create an album for every child or adult you know and love, to create a full set of coordinated albums!

  • Learn how to use templates to create beautiful digital scrapbooking layouts in just minutes — and then learn how you can get build an ever-growing template library of your own, with little effort and very little cost!

If you’ve ever dreamed of creating digital scrapbook pages, this course is a must-have!

Everything you need to know is available to you in one location. There is no need to scour YouTube or countless blogs looking for tutorials to piece together the information you need to know. You’ll be enjoying pages and albums of your favorite photos and memories in no time!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Still have questions? These answers should help you make a final decision about joining this course.

Digital Scrapbooking 101 is an online, self-paced course that includes 16 lessons and 4 hours of instruction — plus lots of bonus goodies! — for just $39.

As with any hobby, you can spend as much or as little as you would like on digital scrapbooking. But to get started, at minimum, you will need to spend:

You might also choose to buy:

  • a Story Squad membership, which will get you 12 pages’ worth of Photoshop templates (easy-to-use blueprints of layouts) a month. These are tools you will find to be an invaluable way to save a TON of time AND produce a ton of layouts!
  • digital scrapbooking kits (which usually cost around $10-$15 for a kit of papers, embellishments and sometimes a decorative alphabet that you can use over and over again)

Yes, I’m positive! Photoshop can be intimidating, but I am here to walk you through every step and give you the resources (workbook, PDF bonuses, and audio and video lessons) you need to be able to master what you need to know in order to create digital scrapbook layouts.

You don’t need to know a lot! In fact, there are just 9 things you need to know within Photoshop in order to create layouts from scratch and using templates. Our bonus, “The 9 Photoshop Things You Need to Know to Start Producing Digital Scrapbook Pages” will prove to be a valuable resource for you — both while you’re taking the course and for keeping handy as you master the ins and outs.

There is always more to learn in Photoshop than what one course can cover (we offer a membership program that will give you access to future learning labs and courses that can help you continue to grow), but to get started, you can do a LOT with the basics!

Also, remember the first time you used a new software program — maybe Microsoft Outlook or Excel or even Word? The first time you open the program, it’s a little scary. But after you use it a few times, it gets easier and easier. The same is true with Photoshop. I know you can do this!

Good news! Story Squad is just getting started, but it’s now my full-time job! I am 100% committed to teaching our students and members how to use Photoshop to create amazing layouts.

Digital Scrapbooking 101 covers the most-often used tools and features, but if you’re wanting to up your digital scrapbooking game, you can join our membership program for ongoing courses, learning labs, resources and more. We are starting with this course, but as time goes on, our offerings will become more extensive. I have plans to show you how to create custom journaling spaces (picture your text wrapped precisely around a star shape or along the arc of a circle), use and create digital stamps to add texture, create your own patterns and so much more!

As our library and offerings grow, the value of this membership will grow, too. The price is likely to increase over time, but if you join now, you’ll be locked in at the current rate for the life of your membership. So join today!

This hobby is absolutely best done on a laptop or desktop computer. You’ll want to be able to use a mouse for navigation; edit, save and find photos and layouts quickly and easily; and zoom in to portions of the layout that might be hard to see. The small screen of a smartphone is simply too limiting and difficult to use for design purposes.

That said, there is a version of Photoshop for the iPad. I personally don’t use it, and I can’t speak to its power or limitations as of today, but it’s possible that it will allow some flexibility when you want to design on the go. Just remember that layered Photoshop documents are notoriously large, and saving large documents only to the cloud might present some challenges.

Reach out to me with questions at help@corcommcreative.com. I’ll answer relevant questions on the public Facebook page, Story Squad – Digital Scrapbooking. If you still don’t get your question answered, consider joining the Story Squad membership program. Inside, you’ll have access to a private Facebook group, which allows you to post questions and receive answers from any of our members at any time!

I go into detail about the available versions of Photoshop during the course, so be sure to listen to Lesson 2. The short story is, for the best results (and access to hundreds of free fonts!), I recommend that you go with the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan for $9.99/month. You can purchase a plan by going here. (I’ll get a small portion of your first month’s fee if you use this link.)

There are a lot of different plans from which to choose, but I recommend the Photography Plan, which is just $9.99/month. It gets you the Photoshop app, but it also gets you access to Adobe Fonts, which is a gold mine for scrapbookers (hundreds of fonts are included for no additional cost)!

The kit that comes with the course includes 48 papers (solids and patterns) and a grunge border overlay. For the layout we will build in this course, you will need a minimum of two papers and the overlay file. We will build our own flag/ribbon element, as well as other portions of what we will use as our title-block graphic.

The layout is intentionally simple, because simple design often equates to timeless design, meaning the layouts you create will look amazing (not outdated) 10 years from now.

That said, we love adding elements to our layouts to add character, too! So, if you join the Story Squad membership program, you will also receive a free School Days kit that includes 99 additional items (40 elements, 18 word-art titles, 41 papers).

If you don’t wish to purchase a membership, you will also be able to purchase this kit within the Story Squad shop at a later date.

Yes! If you join the Story Squad membership, you will also receive a full set of School Portraits Album templates, including templates for:

  • A front cover
  • A title page
  • A layout that includes two portraits (like the one in this course), but facing the other direction
  • A class photos layout
  • A layout that includes just one portrait, instead of two
  • Five, two-page layouts for senior photos (10 pages in all!)
  • An end page, with space for a letter to your graduate and a cap-and-gown photo
  • An inside back cover page, for including lyrics to a favorite song or other quotes
  • A back cover

This set of templates has a value of $50 and is available for free with your Story Squad membership. If you choose not to become a member, it will also be available for sale in the Story Squad shop at a later date.

Yes! Everything is available when you log in for the first time. You’ll receive immediate access to the course Resources section, as well as all of the modules, so you can get started and keep going as quickly as you’d like.

The School Days kit mentioned above, and the School Portraits Album template pack are both included in the immediate downloads inside the membership, so you can download them as soon as you’d like.

Still thinking about it?

Remember: You have nothing to lose, and some happy things to gain!

Remember that the course is backed by my 30-day, money-back guarantee.

I know you can do this! And I know you’re going to love the finished pages you create — while loving the process, too!

Those photos, while trapped on your phone, aren’t easy to enjoy. And if you’re like most people I know, you don’t take the time to swipe through thousands of photos on a regular basis in an effort to enjoy them. Even the ones you share on social media are harder to enjoy as time goes on.

But if you take this course, you will start creating pages that you can print and enjoy right away. And as you continue to create pages, you’ll continue to build a library of layouts that you can hold in your hand, view at any time, share with your family and friends and leave behind as a legacy for the family and friends who come after you.

As you start to thumb through those albums of photos and memories that make you smile, laugh or even cry, you’ll be reminded of the beauty this life has to offer — and all of the blessings this full life of yours has already brought you.

I truly can’t think of a single more fulfilling hobby. You can do this. I am with you all the way. And I know you’re going to love it!

I can’t wait to get you started with digital scrapbooking!

Whether you’re a longtime paper scrapbooker who longs for a less cumbersome way to enjoy your memory-keeping hobby, or someone who is brand new to the idea of doing anything more with your photos than simply printing them and tucking them away in a box, digital scrapbooking has so much to offer!

I have always loved taking and looking at photos, and I have created scrapbooks since I was a young girl.

But when I discovered that I could use software and my computer to create pages and albums that were easy to duplicate…

didn’t require hauling tubs and tubs and tubs of supplies to crops…

allowed me to use my photos at any size I wanted (not just 4×6 or 5×7 or 8×10) on my pages…

and gave me the freedom to reuse my supplies over and over again…

I was 100% sold and have never turned back!

Now, I wouldn’t consider creating albums or photo books in any other way.

Over the years, as my scrapbooking time has become more productive, and the number of layouts and albums on my shelves has grown, my heart has longed for the chance to be able to get more people started on this hobby I love so much. After all, it’s one that fills me with joy — and allows me to share that joy with the people I love.

I can’t wait to introduce you to this hobby!

I want to help you fill your shelves with scrapbook pages and albums that fill your heart with joy. I want to help you fall in love with a hobby that is as much about self-care as it is about sharing your love with others. I want to show you that you can do this, that it’s much easier than you think, and that it doesn’t require gobs of time to produce something amazing.

I’ll see you inside the course — and I look forward to meeting you in our Facebook group! I can’t wait to see the pages you create!

All my best,
